Boring takes a day off at this chic lifestyle shophouse store in stylo mylo Haji Lane. Each item in Mondays Off — which features some 6oo unique buys — is thoughtfully selected by chief “dreamer” Leyna Poh, 27, and her brother Joel, 32, the numbers and operations expert.
Notes Leyna, “I’m really inspired by the simplicity of Scandinavian and Japanese designs, which is very apparent in our store’s design, layout and products.”
Indeed, the 40-plus brands the shop carries hail from the US and South Korea, to South Africa and Denmark, and appeal to house-proud shoppers who love the simplicity of Scandinavian designs.
Leyna enthuses, “The styles and collections we introduce are so versatile that mums can mix it up between rooms or personalities.”
Although it started as an online shop in 2012, Mondays Off opened its 28sq m Haji Lane store in February last year. This cosy shop is the place to score Scandi-themed home furnishings, leather goods, as well Red Carousel party décor, along with stylish accessories like Tau & Upsilon brooches, Minifanfan totes and even whimsical pet bow ties and clothes.
We liked the Triangle cushions by Tinge, a Nutcracker statue, as well as Six Rolling Wheels kids’ cycling caps. It also offers healthy Pili Pushers nuts and Eastern granola.
In keeping with its motto that “Change is the only constant”, Mondays Off aims to introduce new and exclusive products every month. Later this year, design- conscious mums and dads can expect to find more kid-centric buys, including indie furnishings, plus fun clothing.
The store is frequented by both expats and locals. One ardent supporter is assistant manager Anna Sng, 35, mum to a 4-year-old, who has picked up anything from cushion covers and bags, to jewellery and granola, here.
She says, “The products are unique, stylish and make good gift ideas! The easy-going staff also recommends items when I’m buying gifts, nor do they do any hard-selling. I rate them eight out of 10.”

Spur Hauswerks at Pact
Make Spur Hauswerks your go-to the next time you need to find stylish gifts for mums and tots. You’ll be spoilt for choice in this design-centric store, since it boasts homeware, food, toys and threads for tots, as well as jewellery from some 20 brands.
What started as a successful pop- up store operating out of the trendy Tiong Bahru ground-floor flat of couple Indri Tulusan and Aiden Hopfner in 2011 morphed into a permanent home at Orchard Central last year, alongside the Pact store.
Though it initially drew lovers of independent design, Spur started to attract shoppers looking for unique presents. In response to customer feedback, it has tweaked its range, explains Indri, a product designer who studied at London’s The Royal College of Art.
Good buys include baby gift sets by Made Little, a local brand, and cute capes by Hawaiian brand Mi Cielo. We approved of the German Goki wooden toys, too, such as the make-your-own-meal sets, as well as a baby truck from Danish brand Moover.
Mums can pick up great gifts for themselves or friends here — ranging from quirky brooches and tattoos by local label, The Little Dröm Store, to unusual 3D printed jewellery by Monocircus from Japan. Spur also stocks artisanal local food products like GSH jams, as well as healthy, family-friendly snacks by Superlative Foods — think sprouted dehydrated nuts and raw chocolate.
Editor Pamela Qiu, 31, mum to an 11-month-old daughter, is full of praise for Spur, “It has great service and the store layout eases browsing. They have great gifts — we loved the baby bibs we'd bought so much that we went back to buy more — for our daughter, as well as a present for another baby.”
Spur is not about to rest on its laurels either, since it constantly updates its product range. Explains Hopfner, who promises to bring
in more exciting and well-made Japanese toys soon, “As parents of
two rambunctious toddlers, we are especially interested in design-focused products for kids.”
