Voyage into Enchantment - ION Orchard’s festive Christmas extravaganza

WHAT: Your locomotive loving child’s jaw is going to drop when he comes face-to-face with the ION Orchard Express train. This live-sized steam train boasts classic English carriage seats and windows and even has smoke emerging from its chimney, alongside whimsical sound effects. After taking a selfie with the train, head to level four for to see a fun and interactive mini train installation. “Hop onboard” and “journey” across cities and continents to explore forests, valleys and snow-capped mountains through the clever use of moving graphics and imagery. Before you leave, don’t forget to check out ION’s iconic 20m walk-in Christmas tree, adorned with 72 glistening rose gold snowflakes and over 130,000 glowing fairy lights. Enter the Christmas tree and be greeted with an animated winter wonderland light show. Also look out for roving performances by handbells ensemble, The Ministry of Bellz, as well as the New Stream Brass Band who will be dressed in train conductor costumes. Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay

WHAT: Get ready for a spectacular treat as the fourth edition of Christmas Wonderland, Singapore’s biggest annual yuletide fair, returns with bigger, brighter and more magical experiences. Besides taking part in your favourite games and rides, this year you can also skate under the stars at the fair’s first-ever outdoor skating rink. Specially brought in from Switzerland, the 240sqm outdoor synthetic skating rink, framed by stunning luminarie light sculptures, is the biggest in Singapore. Circus Abyssinia from Ethiopia will also make their big Asian debut at the fair, promising to enthrall you with a mix of gravity-defying stunts, astounding skills and enchanting adventure. Before you leave, don’t forget to stop by Santa’s Grotto to meet Mr Claus himself, as well as his “flying” life-sized reindeers.

WHAT: Get ready to close the year with a bang at the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival – a

25,000sqm wonderland filled with thrilling rides, carnival games, and delicious cuisines. Choose from 40 rides and games, including The Star Flyer, a tower ride that enables visitors to take in a 360 degree view of the stunning Singapore skyline, 35m above ground level. Families with little ones will enjoy the Log Flume water ride which takes gentle twists and turns before ending in a splash! Besides rides, there will also be live performances, ventriloquism acts and carol singers, plus yummy fairground favourites like curly fries, sizzling sausages, warm melted raclette [semi-hard Swiss cheese], churros and freshly-popped buttery popcorn. WHAT: What better way to get into the yuletide mood than by taking in a production of The Nutcracker. Performed by the Singapore Dance Theatre, this quintessential Christmas classic gets an Asian twist. Set in Shanghai, China, Clara and her family are hosting a celebratory party. One of the invited guests, Drosselmeyer, presents Clara with a German Nutcracker doll, a gift which he had cast a spell on. Later that evening, after the party is over, Clara goes downstairs to look for her Nutcracker and the spell begins to unfold. Suddenly, the entire house is filled with huge mice taking all the food and presents and causing mischief. What does she do? Who does she call for help? Book your tickets to find out! In Snow Worries, follow the exploits of young Mickey who is desperate to get his family back together for Christmas. Alas, his dad is stuck in Dubai where he is snowed in and it turns out to be the evil Ebeneeza Freeza’s doing. Ebeneeza is hell-bent on ruining everything – he is causing mayhem by freezing the world, just so he can sell his latest invention... HOT ICE CREAM! WHAT: Experience a Nordic Noel as the Gardens by the Bay Flower Dome is transformed into a wintry wonderland. Taking centrestage is an oversized lavvu – a tent-like dwelling used by the indigenous Sami people from Sápmi. Relax within its cosy interiors as you admire the poinsettias, amaryllis, Christmas trees and other lovely flowers. If you’re lucky, you might even get to meet Santa Claus and tour his reading cabin, the post office where he receives letters from well-behaved children, plus the toy workshop manned by his elves, and even a candy store. Come in the evening for an extra special treat as the floral displays will glow with pretty lights. Who knows, you might even be lucky enough to catch the “Northern Lights”!
