Topic 3: What happens in the IVF Lab?

Synopsis: Thomson Fertility Centre is the first private In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) centre in Singapore (1987) and has delivered its first IVF baby in 1988. Revamped in Feb 2012, it has been licensed by MOH, Singapore & certified by RTAC, Australia. The centre is led by a team of professionals using advanced technologies and a comprehensive quality management system ensuring the highest standards of care to patients. This presentation will unveil the insights of what goes on in the laboratory which is vital to understanding the entire process and knowing your chances of success better.

Dr Loh Seong Feei was the Head of the Reproductive Medicine Department and Director of the KKIVF Center before joining Thomson Fertility Center as its Medical Director. During his tenure at KKIVF, he helped shape it into the biggest IVF centre in Singapore. From 2008 to 2010, the centre performed a few thousand IVF cycles with good pregnancy success rates. He believes in a holistic and problem-oriented approach to treating infertility. Dr Loh, who has been instrumental in developing reproductive surgery, has treated many patients with endometriosis, uterine fibroids and tubal disease. He has also helped many couples realise their dreams of becoming parents. Dr Loh believes that fertility treatment should be patient-centered and patient-friendly and that fertility programmes should be tailored to the needs of each individual couple.
他相信不孕不育的治疗必须以病人为中心，善对每一位病患，并用个体化的治疗方案，针对每对夫妻不同情况和要求而制定独特的生育计划和疗程。 Ms Yap Pei Fang is a senior embryologist at the Thomson Fertility Centre. She graduated from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom in 2014. To date, she has 15 years' experience as an embryologist and has even guided new laboratory technicians and primary embryologists. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all aspects of assisted reproductive technology, from specialised fertilisation techniques to frozen embryos and sperm. Ms Yap has helped thousands of childless couples realise their dream of becoming parents.
Ms Zhou holds a double degree ― a Bachelor of Biomedical Science as well as a Bachelor of Chinese Medicine from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). Effectively bilingual, she has worked with specialists in the areas of internal medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, traumatology, as well as pain management from renowned physicians in both Singapore and China. Ms Zhou has a keen interest in using TCM and acupuncture to treat gynaecological, fertility and postnatal issues. She also specialises in pain management and paediatric tui na to treat common paediatric issues.
