Restaurant Reviews: Silver Shell Café dinner buffet

Your little ones will adore helping themselves to kid-friendly fare at the kids’ buffet line – it’s the perfect height for them!

Address: Level 3 Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, 101 Siloso Road, Sentosa, 6371 1966. E-mail to book.

Opening hours: 6pm to 10pm daily.

Now who doesn’t love hotel buffets? The sheer variety of food, and ample open space for kids to run around make it a sure winner when it comes to being family-friendly.

Silver Shell Café at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa ups the ante by creating a scaled-to-their-height dedicated kids’ buffet line, serving a comprehensive array of starters, appetisers, main courses, fruit and dessert.

Of course, if junior fancies something from the “adult” buffet, he’s welcome too — after all, it’s going to be hard to resist six interactive open-kitchen “theatres” serving anything from Indian fare to local favourites, and of course a chocolate fountain.

Keeping the hotel’s guests in mind, the theme for the buffet varies daily. On Sundays and Mondays, be treated to “Feast at Rasa”, $52++ per adult, that features world cuisines including Indian, Western and local flavours. We were there on a Sunday evening and my mee-loving brood was especially thrilled with the Noodle counter that could whip up anything from laksa to bak chor mee at your request.

On Tuesday, satay- and char kway teow-lovers will delight in “Oh! Singapura”, $52++, that serves up a variety of local fare. Want something unique and different? Check out Wednesday’s Mediterranean cuisines, $52++, that feature the likes of Moroccan roast lamb and chorizo paella, or Thursday’s “All Around Asia”, $52++, that has a melting pot of Malaysian, Vietnamese and Thai dishes among others.

On Friday, fans of oysters and lobsters will make a beeline for the “Taste of the Ocean” buffet, $88++, that features a huge variety of seafood all served on ice and grilled to perfection. Saturdays are for kicking back and relaxing to the smokey aroma of the “Barbecue and Roasts” buffet, $68++, that includes crispy, crackling roast pork belly and suckling pig.

So, if you’re thinking often thinking of a hearty meal in a spacious location with something to suit everyone, make sure to bookmark this café.

TOT-O-METER: The kids-sized counter featured an impressive (and nutritious!) array of food for the little ones. From cheesy baked cauliflower, to broccoli cupcakes, it was easy enough getting those veggies into my kids’ diets thanks to the thoughtfully prepared dishes. Silver Shell even thinks of the littlest ones – you’ll be amazed at the BabyZone, which provides complimentary baby food, as well as milk bottle sterilisers, a microwave, baby utensils, wipes and diapers. Baby high chairs are available upon request, and diaper-changing stations is located at the washrooms within the café.

One child aged 5 and below dines free with a paying adult, and an additional child enjoys 50 per cent off the full buffet price.
