#1 KNOCKED UP (2007)

WATCH IT Who doesn’t love a feel-good rom-com? In this, Ben Stone (Seth Rogen), a fun-loving, responsibility-shirking slacker, has a one-night stand with super-hot entertainment journalist Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl). Not long after, she calls him to inform him that she’s pregnant. She wants to keep the baby, but it’s a much tougher decision deciding whether Ben is ready to be a dad.
DON’T MISS You’ll find yourself nodding in agreement as you recognise familiar situations, like projectile morning sickness, to finding out that your significant other has not read any pregnancy books. You’ll sit up at the delivery scene in which Alison screams for an epidural while she’s in the throes of labour pains, only to hear the doctor calmly telling her that her cervix is fully dilated and she’s past the point of an epidural.

#2 WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING (2012)

WATCH IT This film proves that every pregnancy is different. You’ll follow the lives of five interconnected couples as they go through their individual pregnancy journeys. One mum-to-be, Jules Baxter (Cameron Diaz), is a fitness trainer, who realises that she’s pregnant when she vomits into her trophy after performing on the TV show Celebrity Dance Factor. Another woman, photographer Holly Castillo (Jennifer Lopez) wants kids but can’t conceive, so she decides to adopt a child from Ethiopia.
DON’T MISS Anyone who has had an encounter with pregnancy loss will shed a tear at the story of Rosie Brennan (Anna Kendrick). She has sex with an old high school friend, which results in an unexpected pregnancy. While she adjusts to the prospect of imminent parenthood, Rosie discovers that she’s bleeding one night, only to learn later that she has miscarried.

#3 THE BACK-UP PLAN (2010)

WATCH IT This movie will strike a chord with women who fret that their biological clock is ticking. Zoe (Jennifer Lopez), who has kind of given up on finding the man of her dreams, is set on having a baby, even as a single mum. She gets artificially inseminated, only to meet Stan (Alex O'Loughlin) the very same day. The pair fall for each other, and despite feeling confused and angry when he finds out she’s expecting a baby that’s not his, he decides he wants to be with her.
DON’T MISS Oh, who could forget the scene where Zoe tries dancing through her contractions at her grandmother’s wedding and her waters suddenly break? Although we know that it’s only movies that portray such dramatic instances of waters breaking in public, the thought that it could happen to you will still send a shiver down any mum-to-be’s spine!

#4 JUNO (2007)

WATCH IT An unplanned teenage pregnancy turns the life of 16-year-old Juno (Ellen Page) topsy-turvy. At first, she considers getting an abortion, then decides against it, before opting to give her baby up for adoption, instead. Juno meets a seemingly perfect couple, Mark (Jason Bateman) and Vanessa Loring (Jennifer Garner), and agrees to let the couple adopt her baby. However, along the way, Mark starts developing feelings for Juno ― telling her that he will be leaving Vanessa to figure his life out. As the Lorings’ marriage falls apart, Vanessa decides to claim the newborn boy as a single mother.
DON’T MISS There’s a particularly tear-jerking scene, where Vanessa holds her newborn adopted son in her arms while Juno’s step-mum, Bren, watches her. Vanessa asks, “How do I look?” Bren replies, “Like a new mum. Scared sh*tless.”

#5 AWAY WE GO (2009)

WATCH IT Having a baby forces you to grow up in record time, and in Away We Go, an expectant couple, Verona (Maya Rudolph) and Burt (John Krasinski), go in search of the perfect place to start their family. The film, which opened the 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland, sees the couple meeting up and finding fresh connections with all sorts of relatives and old friends, hoping to find that perfect example of healthy parenting.
DON’T MISS Burt and Verona visit their old college friends, Tom and Munch, along with their diverse family of adopted children. Tom comes clean about what parenthood really is: “It’s all those good things you have in you. The love, the wisdom, the generosity, the selflessness, the patience. The patience! At 3am, when everyone’s awake because Ibrahim is sick and he can’t find the bathroom and he’s just puked all over Katki’s bed… And it’s 5.30 and it’s time to get up again and you know you’re going to be tired all day, all week, all your fu*king life. And you’re thinking what happened to Greece? What happened to swimming naked off the coast of Greece? And you have to be willing to make the family out of whatever you have.”

#6 BABY MAMA (2008)

WATCH IT Not everyone’s road to parenthood is smooth, and in this hilarious comedy, a single, successful businesswoman, Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey), dreams of having a baby but discovers she has a T-shaped uterus, rendering her infertile. She decides to hire a working-class woman, Angie Ostrowski (Amy Poehler) to be her unlikely surrogate. But Angie feigns her pregnancy, hoping to run off with the payment. But then she discovers that she’s pregnant for real, with her own baby, and has to confess the truth to Kate. Kate later gets pregnant, too, and the pair become best friends.
DON’T MISS In a scene at a birthing class, the teacher asks, “How many of you are planning on doing a natural childbirth?” Everyone except Angie and Kate raises their hands. The teacher then asks, “How many of you are planning on using toxic western medication to drug your baby for your own selfish comfort?” Angie raises her hands and chortles, “ooh ooh!” Not one to be mum-shamed, that one!

#7 LIFE AS WE KNOW IT (2010)

WATCH IT This one’s not about pregnancy per say, but what comes after! When their mutual best friends die in an accident, two single adults, Holly Berenson (Katherine Heigl), and Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel), become caregivers of an orphaned girl, Sophie. The sad beginning soon gives way to hilarious consequences as the pair (who eventually fall in love) discovers how difficult (and expensive!) it is to look after a child.
DON’T MISS If you’re a parent, you’ll love those familiar situations where Holly and Eric are trying to teach Sophie to self-soothe by letting her cry in her crib, then surrender and pick her up instead. In another scene, the pair are changing Sophie’s soiled diaper ― you’ll roll over with laughter when they try not to gag, with Eric exclaiming, “It’s like Slumdog Millionaire in there!”
