Breastfeeding is probably one of most intimate moments you will spend with your little one. But at some point your boobs will no longer be at your baby’s beck-and-call — like when it’s time to go back to work, or when you need a night out.
However, once breastmilk has been expressed, it has to be handled and stored properly to ensure that it doesn’t go rancid too fast. The last thing we want is for your precious liquid gold to go to waste, right?

More breastmilk storage tips and tricks…
* Store milk in portions your baby will eat to avoid any wastage. 60ml to 150ml in each container is ideal.
* If you’re combining milk from several pumping sessions, label it with the date of the oldest milk.
* If you’re adding freshly expressed breastmilk to an already frozen stash, make sure it’s been cooled, as adding warm milk to a cool or frozen stash can thaw the milk.
* If you’re sending breastmilk to your baby’s infant or childcare centre, make sure to label all containers with bubba’s name to avoid any mix-ups.
* If you’re storing breastmilk in storage bags, put them in sturdy plastic containers to prevent the bags from tearing.
* Don’t fill containers and storage bags to the brim, as breastmilk expands when frozen. This might cause the containers or bags to break or tear.
* Don’t worry if you notice your breastmilk has separated, it’s normal. The creamy hindmilk will usually rise to the top. Before feeding or warming up, swirl the milk to mix it all back together. Never shake it, as it will introduce air bubbles which can give your munchkin gas.
