Pregnancy is one of the most exciting times of your life. But it’s also a time when your personal style starts to suffer, since you may not have a clue on how to dress that ever-growing bump.

Staying on trend when you’re preggers can be a challenge. The moment you start to show, you can pretty much say goodbye to those form-fitting pre-pregnancy clothes.

Then what happens? Do you try to conceal your baby bump with loose-fitting, flowy dresses and tops? Or proudly show it off with hug-those-curves ensembles? What about office and evening wear? Decisions, decisions…

If you feel like you’re stuck in a pregnancy fashion rut and can’t seem to tear yourself away from your leggings, no fear. We’ve put celebrity secrets to dressing a baby bump in an easy-to-follow cheat sheet. Follow these seven rules and you will look on point all day, every day.

RULE #1: Who says you can’t look sexy when you’re a mama-to-be? Singapore’s sweetheart Joanne Peh shows the hoi polloi how to step out in style when she strikes a balance between sexy and sophisticated in an off-shoulder peekaboo Jessica Cindy gown at the recent Star Awards ceremony. The radiant star ― whose style mantra is “less is more” ― completes her look with slicked back hair and dangling earrings.

RULE #2: Lengthen your look by opting for dresses and tops that have a V-neckline if you’re struggling to look proportionate even as you keep expanding sideways. Joanne Peh ― mere months away from giving birth to baby #2 ― slays again as she stands tall and slim in a classic red Valentino gown. She keeps her hair soft and make up simple.

RULE #3: Don’t be afraid to include bright colours into your workwear. Pregnant with twins, Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer and wife to Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney, shows off a hint a baby bump in a daffodil-yellow Bottega Veneta dress and coat. She completes her corporate look in Jennifer Chamandi Lorenzo power pumps.

RULE #4: For those dress-down days, steal a leaf from supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s style page. The supermodel adds interest to a basic white tee and black skinny jeans combo by throwing on a silk bomber jacket from her RosieHWxPaige line. Add some edge to your look with gold hoop earrings and a fedora.

RULE #5: Go glam like Queen Bey in a figure-hugging dress for an evening soirée. Expecting twins in her second pregnancy, Beyoncé dons a custom-made Nicole Miller sapphire dress that hugs in all the right places to highlight those dangerous curves and bountiful bosom. Let the dress speak for itself and keep accessories to a minimum. Dangling earrings, a simple ring and a clutch bag should do the trick.

RULE #6: When everything else fails, you can always reach for that LBD (little black dress). R&B singer Ciara looks smouldering in this minimalistic outfit, where she shows off her baby bump in a tight bodycon dress from A Pea in the Pod. She pairs it with vertiginous lace-up platform heels and keeps her hair and make-up natural.

Dare to bare

RULE #7: Beach babes, don’t be shy to show some skin. After all, pregnancy is the only time you don’t have to suck in that tummy! Model Hannah Quinlivan (better known as Mrs Jay Chou) recently took to Instagram to announce her second pregnancy, baring all in a brown bikini top. The 23-year-old teamed it with shorts, a sun hat and a pair of super-cool reflective aviator sunnies.
