Alaia Chen, 11 months

Notorious for his nude photos scandal, Canadian-born Edison Chen, 36, shocked the world last June when he posted a picture of his baby daughter. Taken at Alaia’s 100-day celebration, the actor/singer was all smiles as he cradled his daughter in his arms while posing next to his Chinese-born model and wife, Shu Pei Qin, 27, and her parents. Indeed, many in the press have said that Asia’s bad boy seems to have turned into a family man. Edison recently posted a picture of the couple and their new addition vacationing in Hawaii. Alexis Olympia Ohanian, 5 months

Tennis superstar Serena Williams penned a tell-all article on CNN recently on how giving birth to her daughter sparked off a series of life-threatening complications. It all began with a pulmonary embolism — a condition where a blood clot blocks one or more arteries in the lungs — which left her with struggling to breathe. The 36-year-old, who is married to Reddit co-founder, Alexis Kerry Ohanian, 34, recalled coughing intensely as a result, which made her C-section wound to pop open. “I returned to surgery, where the doctors found a large hematoma, a swelling of clotted blood, in my abdomen. And then I returned to the operating room for a procedure that prevents clots from travelling to my lungs.” Needless to say, the route to recovery was long and arduous. Serena had to spend her first six weeks as a mum in bed. Even through these challenges, the 23-time Grand Slam winner feels she is “fortunate”. By the way, if you can’t get enough of Serena’s cutie pie, you’ll be happy to note the munchkin has her own Instagram account that has already garnered over 269,700 loyal followers! Ellery Grace Yap, almost 1 month

Despite being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Velda Tan, who started fashion label Collate and Our Second Nature, was unwavering in her efforts to conceive. The 30-year-old mumpreneur revealed that her mum also battled the same condition and went on to have three daughters, so she was determined to try. “It was only two years back when we started to actively try for a baby that we realised it was not happening.” Two years of fertility medication not only led the fashionista to pile on the kilos and experience mood swings — the results were disappointing. Velda and her restaurateur hubby, Frederick Yap, 30, decided to seek a second opinion. After getting hormone injections, the couple got pregnant on their first try. Even then, Velda’s gynae urged the couple to prepare for the worst as there was no sign of a baby at the couple’s five-week scan. Luckily, in the seventh week, the anxious parents-to-be heard their little angel’s heartbeat. Ellery was born in January 2018. (Photos: Instagram/Velda Tan, Frederick Yap)

Asahd Khaled, 1 year

World-famous producer, DJ Khaled, 42, spared no expense to celebrating his son’s first birthday in October 2017. Together with his fiancée, Nicole Tuck, also 42, Khaled put together an extravagant jungle-themed celebration — complete with real-life tiger cubs — at Miami nightclub Liv. Pint-sized guests even zipped around in style within the club in mini-luxury cars. And just when you think nothing else could top this extravagance, daddy presented the apple of his eye with his first bling — an 11.5 carat, US$100,000 ($132,398) rose gold diamond watch! At age 1, Asahd is already going places ― he’s partnered with Air Jordan to release a special collection of children’s clothes. (Photos: Instagram/DJ Khaled, Asahd Khaled)

August Zuckerberg, 6 months

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, 32, announced the birth of his second daughter with a heartfelt open letter published on the popular social media website he started. Mark seized the opportunity to remind his little angel — and parents all over the world — about the importance of childhood and play. Writing that childhood is a magical thing that everyone gets to experience only once in a lifetime, he said. “You will be busy when you're older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and put all the leaves you want in your bucket now. You only get to be a child once, so don't spend it worrying too much about the future.” The billionaire also took two months’ paternity leave, so that he could spend time with his mini-me. He posted an adorable wefie of him snuggling up on the couch with his newest arrival with the caption, “Baby snuggles are the best”. Mark and his paediatrician wife — Priscilla Chen, 32 — also have an older daughter Max, born in 2015. (Photos: Facebook/Mark Zuckerberg)

Hayes Alba Warren, 2 months

What better way to ring in the New Year than to welcome your newest arrival? Movie star Jessica Alba’s delivered her third child and only son on New Year’s Eve. Jessica and her film producer hubby, Cash Warren, 38, have two older daughters — Honor Marie, 9½, and Haven Garner, 6. The 36-year-old mumpreneur, who runs her own cosmetic and cleaning solutions company, the Honest Company, revealed on the Tonight Show last October that she struggled to stick to the naming theme for baby number three. She not only had to come up with a name starting with the letter H, it also needed two syllables. While no one knows the couple’s reasons for settling on Hayes, this name, which has English origins, means “from the hedged place”. (Photos: Instagram/Cash Warren, Jessica Alba)

Odette Elliot Padalecki, 11 months old

After two sons, Supernatural star, Jared Padalecki, 35, is really excited that a daughter arrived in March 2017. The actor tells People magazine, “It’s a really cool experience, and I’m really excited for her to grow, and hopefully, have a daddy’s girl.” Jared notes that having a daughter also makes him feel vulnerable in a way he had not feel with his sons — Shepherd, 3, and Thomas Colton, 5. The doting dad notes that it’s difficult to keep his cool if anyone ever touches her, unlike with his two boys. Also, Jared notes that baby Odette has a pretty chill personality, too. “She’s a super chill baby, she’s exactly what you want in a child: She pees and she eats and she sleeps… I hope that sticks around.” Jared shares his three kids with his actress wife, Genevieve Cortese, 37. Luke, 5 months

With a quick temper, this little guy couldn’t wait to show the world what he has to offer. Gold 90.5 radio DJ Jamie Yeo, 41, tells SmartParents that though Luke was born five weeks early, her cherub is growing well. “When he couldn’t see that clearly ― cos their eyes aren’t so developed when their really young, he would whine more, because he wasn’t really engaged. Now that he sees better, he laughs and smiles a lot!” And when it comes to her risk management consultant hubby, Rupert, 40, Jamie is quick to point out that he’s a very hands-on dad — even taking all of bubba’s night feeds. “I’ve never done a middle of the night feed, because he’s always done it! When we both wake up, I pump and he feeds. That’s how hands-on he is.” Jamie also has another daughter, Alysia, 8, from her previous marriage to British expat, Thorsten Nolte. “Shen Mo”, 4 months

This adorable bundle shares the same birthday as Hong Kong’s “Heavenly King” Andy Lau, the childhood idol of Cross Ratio Entertainment artists Tay Kewei and her hubby, Alfred Sim. Alfred, 35, tells 8 Days magazine, “[Our son’s] estimated date of arrival was September 23, but I had been coaxing him to wait for a few more days, so that he will be born on September 27. It seems like he’s really obedient ‘cos he listened to us!” While the couple has been capturing their life on their own YouTube channel, they are mum about their son’s name, preferring to stick with the nickname, 什么 (Shen Mo). Kewei told SmartParents previously, “We have a nickname for the baby that's meant as a joke… We call it 什么 (Shen Mo) for now — in Mandarin it means “what?”, otherwise, we haven’t thought of a name.”(Photos: Instagram/Tay Kewei)

Maxwell Roland-Samuel, 3 months

The newest addition to Justin Baldoni’s household could have arrived at a better time. The 34-year-old Jane the Virgin star has been busy producing his own documentary series,vWe Are Man Enough, which explores the changing perception of modern masculinity. In it, the actor sits with panels of guests to discuss issues such as emotional vulnerability and body image issues among men. These are definitely topics that his little one will need to grapple with one day. The feminist dad, who announced the arrival of his bundle last December on Instagram, wrote about the importance of listening to the people around him, especially the women in his life. “Listen to your mother, your sister, your nana. Listen to your guy friends, your bullies and the strangers you meet every day. Listen to those who can’t speak. Listen even when it hurts. Just listen. And then let your actions be your response.” With a doting dad like Justin, we’re sure that Maxwell is on the right track! The actor has an older daughter — Maiya Grace Baldoni, 2 — with his Swedish actress spouse, Emily Baldoni, 33. (Photos: Instagram/Justin Baldoni, Emily Baldoni)

William “Billy” Kimmel, 11 months

Late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel’s smiley son, affectionately known as “Billy” underwent emergency open-heart surgery mere days after being delivered. Doctors diagnosed Billy with a congenital heart defect called the tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia. This condition occurs when a valve in the newborn’s heart is blocked and there’s a hole in the walls between its left and right sides. This procedure won’t the little boy’s last either. Billy had to fight through another operation when he’s between 3 and 6 months old and yet another in his teens. Besides Billy, Jimmy and his writer-producer wife, Molly McNearney, 39, share a daughter, Jane, 3. Jimmy has two grown children — Kevin, 24, and Katie, 26 — from a previous marriage. Reuben Michael and Maegen Riley Tan, both 4 months old

After nine years spent trying to conceive, actress/host Melody Chen, 40, and her hubby Randall Tan, 42, finally welcomed fraternal twins to their household. In 2012, she suffered a miscarriage and a failed IVF attempt before conceiving her twin babies naturally. They were also delivered prematurely by an emergency C-section before being transferred to the Singapore General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Melody has also been dutifully updating her Instagram feed with pictures and anecdotes about the twins. During the recent Lunar New Year celebrations, Melody posted a hilarious picture of the couple carrying their crying twins. She wrote, “We squeezed in as many house visits as we could on the first day, which basically gave rise to meltdowns from extra-cranky babies who had zero naps the entire day. (Aren’t we the best parents ever?! Ha! )” (Photos: Instagram/Melody Chen)
