Parenthood is hard.

And as much as we’d like to say that mums and dads out there are supportive of each other and lift each other up, the truth is, there’s still plenty of parent-shaming going on.

If you’re in the public eye, like these celebrities are, then things could be much, much worse.

Posting a seemingly innocuous photo of yourself preparing a meal for your peewee on Instagram might subject you to a flurry of comments of people scrutinising what’s on your little one’s plate, as well as your every move.

Indeed, the judgement runs deep, and these nine celebs have faced the wrath of parent shamers everywhere.

#1 Beyonce

We kick off the list with Queen Bey. Married to rapper Jay-Z, the star couple have 9-month-old twins Rumi and Sir Carter, as well as an older daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, 6. Shortly after welcoming the twins, Beyonce shared a picture of herself sipping red wine at a sushi restaurant while out on a dinner date. Of course, this riled up the internet, and Instagram users started questioning why she was drinking if she was breastfeeding her twins. Even worse, some assumed she wasn’t breastfeeding, and that she was giving her babies formula instead. “"Guess she's not breastfeeding," wrote one user. (Photo: Beyonce/ Instagram)

#2 Chrissy Teigen

In a similar fashion, American model and host Chrissy Teigen’s night out with her husband, singer-songwriter John Legend, 10 days after giving birth to her baby girl Luna, came under major scrutiny, with trolls telling her that it’s too soon. Legend came to her defence, saying, “Funny there's no dad-shaming. When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn't have to take it all. We'll split it.” It’s not the first time Teigen had been mum-shamed. Trolls also tore her down when she ate cereal during her pregnancy. After Luna was born, she had been criticised for the way she carried Luna, letting Luna wear jelly shoes, and even for the way she went down a playground slide. (Photo: Chrissy Teigen/ Instagram)

#3 Xiaxue

Another mum that’s no stranger to online haters is Xiaxue. The controversial Singaporean blogger, whose real name is Wendy Cheng, once posted about how people kept criticising her for dyeing her hair while pregnant. Now mum to Dash, 5, she wrote that her gynae said it’s perfectly safe to do so, and after doing research, she too, found that there was no conclusive evidence that dyeing her hair would harm the baby. Still, she only started dyeing her hair again after the first trimester: “Even though I believed that it is safe, to stop all the criticism and to err on the side of caution I tried to minimise hair dyeing.” (Photo: 8DAYS)

#4 Ryan Reynolds

Dads aren’t spared the shaming – as American heartthrob Ryan Reynolds can attest. His wife, actress Blake Lively, lovingly uploaded a Father’s Day photo of her man babywearing their then 7-month-old firstborn, James in 2015. The problem was, that the precious babe was not secured properly in the baby carrier. One fan suggested that the celeb couple “learnt to read the instruction manual”. Reynolds later went on the Today show, to apologise for his mistake, saying, 'I'm a first-time dad, and that is not the first mistake I've made. I can guarantee you it won't be last.” (Photo: Blake Lively/Instagram)

#5 Kelly Clarkson

As parents, we try to offer our kids nutritious foods. But there are always those days where a chocolate bar, or a chicken nugget wouldn’t hurt – would it? Well, not if you’re as famous as American singer Kelly Clarkson. The mum of two was accused of “child abuse” by one Instagram user when she uploaded a video of her daughter, River, beaming after tasting Nutella on toast. "Giving food like this to a child is child abuse," the user wrote. Another commenter said, “Stop eating Nutella. It’s been confirmed to give cancer.” (Photo: Kelly Clarkson/ Instagram)

#6 Mila Kunis

Actress Mila Kunis knows where her priorities lie, when her child is hungry. "There were many times where I didn't bring a cover with me, and so I just [nursed] in a restaurant, in the subway, in the park, at airports, and in planes," said the mum of two, who’s married to fellow The 70’s Show actor Ashton Kutcher. "Why did I do it in public? Because I had to feed my child. She's hungry.” But the celeb couple have noticed dirty looks, and Kunis says she was surprised, because all she wanted to do was feed her daughter, and not expose her breasts. The actress told Vanity Fair, “If it’s not for you, don’t look.”(Photo: GC Images)

#7 Victoria Beckham

The mum of four and wife to football star David Beckham faced mum-shamers when she uploaded a photo of herself kissing her daughter, Harper, now 6, on her lips. The Instagram post, which was in celebration of her sweetie’s 5th birthday, set off a string of comments from haters saying that what she was doing was “inappropriate”. Her fans promptly came to her defence – some even posted pictures of themselves kissing their little ones similarly. Wrote one user, “How can people sexualize a woman kissing the baby she gave birth to?” (Photo: victoriabeckham/ Instagram)

#8 Megan Fox

Just last year, the Transformers star was slammed for allowing her 5-year-old son, Noah, to wear a Frozendress to a shopping mall in Los Angeles. She later discussed her son’s outfit choice in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, “Noah wears dresses so there are no rules - you can be whatever you want to be in my house.” Fox’s husband, actor Brian Austin Green, also said, “At 5, that's a time when he should be having fun. He's not harming anyone [by] wearing a dress. So if he wants to wear a dress, good on him.” (Photo: Daily Mail)

#9 Pink

Look at the photo above and you’d probably be applauding the amazing woman for being able to multi-task, preparing a meal while caring for her two young children. But American singer-songwriter Pink faced the ire of mum shamers who frowned upon her wearing her son, Jameson in a baby carrier as she did the cooking, saying it was dangerous. Her daughter Willow, then 5, was on the kitchen counter top. One user wrote, “Stop doing this! You are a great singer, don't need to expose your baby to boiling oil. Are you insane these days?" Others stood up for the mum of two, saying that it’s a nightly reality for many mums out there. (Photo: Pink/ Instagram)

#10 Jenna Dewan Tatum

Women aren’t allowed to show off their sensual and sexy selves once they become mums, it seems, according to internet trolls. Amazing dancer and actress Dewan Tatum recently posted a series of cheeky photos on a balcony when she was in the UK. The wife of fellow Step Up actor Channing Tatum was promptly flamed for baring too much skin. Someone even wrote, “Unfollowing. She’s a mother. No need for these posts.” Dewan Tatum later posted a quote in response to the haters: “You can tell who the strong women are. They are the ones you see building up one another instead of tearing each other down.” (Photo: Jenna Dewan/ Instagram)
