Run through this checklist to see if your spouse is getting set to settle down to becoming a parent!
“Will I be able to support the family financially? Will I be a good dad? Will I ever sleep peacefully again?” Many men will have qualms about their ability to care for a child as parenting is really tough job.
He will have need to be a nurturer, a teacher, a provider, and a pillar of support for his family all rolled into one ― a very big responsibility to undertake.
Indeed, it did take actor George Clooney 56 years to become a father of twins Ella and Alexander. By the way, even if your man is ready, he might not know it himself, so, you’ll have to spot the signs that he is game to take your marriage to the next level! Here’s how to tell that your fella is ready for fatherhood:
1. He has developed an interest in kids
It could be your relative, neighbour, or some random baby that the both of you spot at the grocery store, but you have started to notice that your honey seems more interested in the little ones now. He’ll be smiling at them, making funny faces in public to make the cuties laugh, and commenting non-stop about how adorable babies are.
2. He forwards baby videos to you every day
Receiving videos of his baby nephew or Facebook notifications that your hubby has tagged you in another “cute baby laughing” video is a daily occurrence now. Maybe he finally sees the appeal in filling your home with the sound of children’s laughter, instead of turning the television up to full volume or blasting heavy metal music all weekend long.
You have started to notice that your honey seems more interested in the little ones now. He’ll be smiling at them, making funny faces in public to make the cuties laugh.
3. He wants a pet
He is not referring to a pet goldfish, or something that is easy to take care of. He wants a big loving mutt, which is almost the same as having a child. Both can be cuddled, both slobber quite a bit, and both require attention 24/7. Instead of getting a dog, why not convince him he should have a baby? A baby won’t steal his socks (probably) or leave fur all over the house (although they do create other types of mess). But hey, a baby will eventually learn to speak and communicate with you, and that is something a dog can never do.
4. He says that you will be a great mum
If he is imagining you carrying a baby, rocking her to sleep, as well as feeding and taking care of her, and just being a great mum overall, he must have imagined himself holding the little bundle in his arms, too. Why not turn his imagination into reality?
5. He is responsible
Does he clean up after himself? Does he help with the household chores, or after he comes back from work, no matter how tired he is? If he does, you can trust that he will help you shoulder your babycare duties, even when he comes home weary and bone tired after a long day at work.
6. He has accomplished most of what he wants to do
He has a stable job, owns a home, has travelled to various parts of the world, and is pleased with his professional success. He is definitely ready to move on to the next challenge of his life, caring for his mini-me!
7. He cares for you
If he’s able to comfort you whenever you need it, give you a big hug and wipe away your tears, he will definitely be able to do the same for his little princess in the future, too.
He’s also bummed when they can no longer join him for a tipple because they prefer returning home to spend time with their mini-bundle of joy.
8. He skips out on after-work drinks
Instead of going out for a drink with his mates every Friday, he comes home right after work these days to spend time with you. If you have a child, he would make it a point to bond with your little one before bedtime. Now, all you have to do is give him a baby to play with!
9. He starts organising his finances
Has he been saving up for a while now, even though neither of you has made plans to buy a new house or car? Well, he might be subconsciously looking into the future and minding his moolah to feed that extra mouth he hopes would be arriving soon.
10. All his closest friends are dads
He feels envy whenever he sees his friends posting pictures of their little angel on Instagram or Facebook. He’s also bummed when they can no longer join him for a tipple because they prefer returning home to spend time with their mini-bundle of joy.
